Art Day 2024
September 27, 2024
Dear Art Teacher,
Chadron State College is hosting their annual Art Day for area high school students who excel in the visual arts. On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, you are invited to gather for workshops in clay, printmaking, drawing, design, and other media with the students, staff, and faculty of the CSC Art Department. A CSC Admissions table will set up in the Memorial Hall Lobby with an Admissions representative available to talk with students and teachers. In the Main Gallery in Memorial Hall will be a retrospective show of CSC art faculty’s past work. On the 2nd floor of Memorial Hall in Gallery 239 (top of the stairs and left) is an exhibit from prominent African American sculptor, William E. Artis, who taught at CSC from 1954 -1965. He studied with well-known Harlem Renaissance artist, Augusta Savage.
Teachers are welcome to sit in on workshops or relax and get acquainted with one another in our Teacher Hospitality Center in the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center. Also, at the Center you can find exhibits about Mari Sandoz, famous writer from the Sandhills. In downtown Chadron, you can take a walking tour of Chadron’s own Art Alley and mural projects, located in the alley just west of Main Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues.
Each school is asked to limit their numbers to no more than 10 students (preferably juniors and seniors) due to facility size and staff numbers. For lunch on your own, there is a cafeteria on campus as well as local restaurants in town.
We need to have teachers and each of your students who plan on attending to register individually at http://g7ln.sanmingzhi.net/academics/art/art-day/ no later than Tuesday, October 15th. For more information on CSC Art Day or any questions, please contact Valarie Graf at vgraf@sanmingzhi.net, 308-432-6317 or 1-800-CHADRON (ask for Valarie Graf) or Mary Donahue.
